Week 1 Term 2
Nightcliff Primary School
Hi everyone
Welcome back to school! The students are very happy to see each other and be back in the classroom. This term is action-packed, with many events occurring. Check out our school calendar to see what’s planned. We hope to add excursions to this as the year continues and planned curriculum projects occur in classes.
This term, we welcome Naila Huma as Year 2 classroom teacher. In addition, we welcome back Ms Wilkinson to Transition, Ms Hardie to Year 2, Ms Magee to the Intervention team and Ms Min to support staff.
A few staff are on leave this term, Ms Dalgleish and Ms Cowley. We farewell Ms Vlamos Year 2 and Ms Rozi (NT Music School) for the time being, and we look forward to seeing them again sometime. This term, we have three support staff on practicum completing teaching, Ms Croser, Ms Politis and Ms Chirizzi. We welcome new pre-service teachers to our school from CDU as a teaching school.
We are launching schoolzine with this newsletter. We hope the new format will support ease of communication. Please provide us with feedback or details if you require information that we could share on our website for new and existing parents/carers. Our school council is also happy to assist with general queries for new or existing parents/carers and can be contacted at: nightcliffpsc@gmail.com

National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN)
Year 3 and 5 students have been working hard to familiarise and prepare themselves ahead of the National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) testing during weeks 4 & 5 (10th to the 20th of May).
There will be four tests in total over two weeks, with all tests, except for the Year 3 writing, to be completed online. For more information, visit https://www.nap.edu.au/
Best of luck Years 3 and 5!
Peer Mediators
On Wednesday 6th April 2022, our Year 5 and 6 SRC students participated in a Peer Mediation workshop at Nightcliff Primary School.
Peer Mediators assist students in minor disputes to think of ways to work out the problem themselves in a peaceful manner. It is a voluntary process, and bigger issues continue to be dealt with by staff on yard duty. In addition to helping make the school a safer place to learn, the skills gained in the training can be applied throughout a student’s personal life.
Students learnt about the qualities and benefits of being a Peer Mediator and what they do. They practised the mediation process in the form of role-playing and looked at listening skills, levels of conflict, and types of disputes.
Peer Mediation forms an important part of the school’s anti-bullying strategies as it supports our ongoing commitment to student engagement and wellbeing. In addition, research shows that Peer Mediation enhances the school climate and can increase academic performance as a result of a more relaxed environment.
Congratulations NPS Peer Mediators!
