Health and Physical Education @ NPS
We complement our successful HPE program at Nightcliff Primary School through several outlets, including School Sport NT gala days, Sporting Schools grants to access community sports groups such as Tennis Australia, Nightcliff Swimming Pool, Nightcliff sports club affiliation clubs for AFL, cricket, netball, soccer and hockey teams, Auskick and Territory Thunder.
Last year we took out the city cluster group of schools overall school winner, swimming trophy and pennants for all codes attended. This term we have basketball gala day next week finishing off the 8 school sports gala days attended this year. Our swimming team came an almighty second last Friday. We have a engaged a fulltime HPE teacher for 2024 and our focus will be to encourage students to participate in a range of sports offered by the School Sport officers and align our whole school curriculum plan for HPE to deliver both the Health curriculum and Physical Education over the year.
Healthy eating is also encouraged as part of Health education and the school’s Healthy Eating Policy. It is monitored at eating times by teachers. Our Eco-warriors further promote nude food days to educate students on reducing packaging, and raw foods when packing lunches.
Healthy Eating Policy
There is a Healthy Eating Policy (on our school website) which encourages families to consider Green and Amber food choices when packing student lunches as recommended by the Australian Government’s Australian Guide to Healthy Eating. Our school canteen adheres to the policy and the National Healthy Canteen Guidelines from the Australian Department of Health.
Solar car team
Our team the Brunel Solar Car team came second! After starting in position 3 at the start of the race from Parliament House with tough competition they have done well to secure second place. We have thoroughly enjoyed having them at our school and wish them all a safe flight home to the Netherlands.
Colour fun run
Thank you for your support of this fundraiser. The students were very excited at assembly today and around the school to have their white shirts on and the preschool class joined in at preschool with their own mini-colour run.
We have extended the fundraising cutoff to Friday 10/11/23, where Mr Kundan Pandey (IT technician) and Mrs Glennon (Principal) will be slimed by the highest fundraisers!
