Week 10 Term 3
Nightcliff Primary School Newsletter
Hi everyone,
What a great end to our term with a fantastic dance performance extravaganza by all classes. It was great to have our community together celebrating the hard work of our students, teachers and staff to provide a dance spectacular! Many thanks to our Extravaganza committee of teachers and our admin team for organising the logistics and bringing the event together, and our school council and solar car team members who cooked on the BBQ.
Access during school holidays
Fencing construction will occur during the school holidays at the front of the school. Parents and carers of students in vacation care need to be aware that this will be a construction zone affecting Cunjevoi Crescent and Pandanus Street access. The staff carpark in Pandanus Street will also be closed for construction of the solar car. Access for families during the holidays is to be via the rear gates of the school on the oval for vacation care from 7:30am-6:00pm. Bauhinia Street and Oleander Street have parking spots. Families are able to access the oval playgrounds and basketball court during the holidays and weekends as a community space. The interior playgrounds of the school are not available as this is occupied by after school vacation care now and is an alarmed area on weekends.
In Term 4, all gates will be locked until 7:45am when duty of care begins. After 8.10am, only the front office gate and preschool gate will remain open for families to sign in at the front office and preschool. During the day all visitors are asked to enter through the front office or preschool gates and sign in as per normal. All gates will be reopened at 2:15pm and locked at 3pm. After school care (OSHC) families will continue to have access to children enrolled in this program after school through the front office gate.
Brunel Solar Car Team
We welcome the solar car team from the Netherlands to our school this week. As part of our Memorandum of Understanding with the team for which we had a relationship with since 2014, we work in partnership with the team members to provide awareness and education of solar power as a sustainable renewable energy. This aligns to our Eco school focus. The presentation from the team to students documents the process from logistics, building the solar car in the school shed, testing, modifying and the final design. The partnership provides for education and awareness in the learning areas of sustainability, science, technology and design. The solar car team members interact with the students in the playground to build relationships, promote the program and provide support for sports games at recess and lunch. The World Solar Car Challenge from Darwin to Adelaide is scheduled for the 28th of October.
School Review
In Term 4, Week 3, 24-26th October we will be having the next cycle of our school review. School reviewers would like to talk to parents and carers of the school about the focus on Reading, Mathematics and Wellbeing and how families understand their children's learning goals in these areas. They also would like to know how parents feel their children are going at school and what they like about it. They will be in the playground on Wednesday 25th October to say hello.
Street Library
Ms Fanning has secured a street library for the school which children have designed and will begin painting shortly. This will be placed near the rear entrance to the school in the DCC laneway, by the basketball court, where families can borrow and return books anytime.
Music in Arts Term 4
Ms Fanning will be running a recorder program in Term 4, please see flyer below.

3 Pengilly Maths Extensions
This week our class have been creating games based on the content we learnt in Maths Prime this term. Today we invited the class next door to come test out our games and provide feedback.
Year 3 Pengilly have been learning the structure of persuasive writing. With the wet season approaching and us all wanting to get back in the water, here are our reasons why everyone should learn to swim.
