Week 1 Term 3
Nightcliff Primary School Newsletter
It’s Dinidjanggama (Heavy dew time) Season for Gulumoerrgin (Larrakia) country. Heavy dew dampens the grass in the morning. Agile Wallabies (Macropus agilis) are the Top End’s most common kangaroo. They feed in large groups on green pick in areas burnt by fire. Antilopine Wallaroos (Macropus antilopinus) live in small groups in grassy woodlands.
Hi everyone
Welcome back to Term 3! Students were very excited today to be back. We have, as you may have noticed this morning, temporary fencing still up as we await the new playground to be completed. It is due for completion at the end of this week. We apologise for the inconvenience in the mornings, but are excited for our new sandpit, swings and shade which replaces the broken slide and aging equipment.
Reminders
Transition sign in-sign out. A reminder to families of Transition students to please sign your child in and out of class every day. For safety we need to know that you have dropped them off to school with a sibling (who can sign) or yourself. Transition students are not permitted on the school bus without a sibling.
Hats – the No Hat No Play rule will be enforced this term again. Students without at hat will be sitting out of playground as per our sun-safe policy. Please label and decorate your child’s hat so they are easily identifiable if they go missing.
Respect- Term 3 sees the refresh of the Quality Start Up program with a reminder of school values and respectful behaviour to all adults and school property.
Upcoming events:
Several events coming up which are exciting. (Please see the Term 3 calendar below).
The School Council will be hosting a sausage sizzle for the parent teacher interview night (Three Way Conversations). Gold coin donation. BYO own drinks, water bubblers available
Three way conversations booking close tomorrow 3pm.
Times-table challenge heats will be held Thursday lunchtime by the NT Learning Commissioners. Students in the finals will bring home a note to advise they are competing at Friday's assembly.
Vaping in schools
There are many different styles of electronic cigarettes, commonly known as vapes, and they can be difficult to spot. The biggest misunderstanding about vapes is that they are harmless compared to cigarettes. This is not true - vapes are NOT safe.
This week NT Health launched the 'Do You Know What You're Vaping?' campaign including a collection of resources - posters, factsheets, postcards and letters for schools and families to help identify vapes and educate young people on the harmful effects of vaping.
It’s important to take the time to talk to your child about the risks of vaping. Try to start the conversation in a relaxed easy-going way, and remember your goal is to have a conversation, not deliver a lecture. Importantly, get the facts at: nt.gov.au/vaping
