Week 1 Term 1
Nightcliff Primary School Newsletter
Gulumoerrgin (Larrakia) is the Aboriginal language for Darwin and the surrounding regions of Cox Peninsula and Gunn Point in the Northern Territory. We pay our respects to past and present elders and emerging leaders in our community. It’s Dalay (Monsoon) Season for Larrakia country which means monsoon rains replenish the dry and thirsty land.
Dear Families,
Welcome back to the new school year. There were many excited faces and first day photos yesterday. When talking with students in the yard at the end of the day, 100% of students reported a great first day.
A few reminders:
Mobile Phones and Smartwatches
The "Mobile Phone and Smartwatch Policy" is now effective. If you require your child to have either of these devices for safety purposes for before and after school, they need to be handed into the front office for lock-up until the end of the day. Thank you to those families who have already put this in motion.
Lates
A reminder that if students arrive later than 8.10am, they need to sign in through the front office and collect a late note to take to their teacher.
Absences- 2023 Attendance Drive
The text messaging system goes out at 9am to alert families to absences and to request a reply text notifying us of the reason. If we don't receive a notification we will phone families to follow up on why your child is absent. A medical certificate is required for longer absences. Please ensure our record of your mobile phone number is up to date so that we can reach you. We also need current phone contact details for safety reasons (eg. a student leaving premises) or to support student needs such as illness.
Medical Records
Please keep us up to date with any changes in medical conditions that may occur as your child grows. Please check with the front office that your child has adequate medication and that it is in date. This key information is kept centrally on our Student Administration System.
Drop Off/Pick Up
We encourage parents, particularly of older students, to consider parking or dropping students off on Pandanus Street or Bauhinia Street which is towards the back of the school near Finch's Forest. This will help to eliminate any congestion occurring at the front of the school (on Conjevoi Crescent).
Back to School Payment Scheme 2023
A reminder that the 2023 Back to School Payment Scheme ($150) is available for families to use for student book packs, uniforms and excursions. If you haven't used your voucher, please see the front office. This will expire at the end of Term 1 (6th April 2023).
Have a great week and please contact your child's teacher if you have any concerns. You may contact teachers for a meeting at any time between 2:45 or 3:00pm or via email (see school website staff page for teacher email address).
