Week 8 Term 4
Nightcliff Primary School Newsletter
It’s Balnba (Rainy) Season for Gulumoerrgin (Larrakia) country. Damugula (Mud Mussels) and Danijarra (Long Bums) are collected on the mud flats as they become exposed by rain.
Welcome to Week 8!
As we move towards the busy end of the term, there is plenty happening and some key dates to note, such as Pyjama Day this Friday! I would like to encourage you to keep an eye on the School Calendar, which receives regular updates. You are always most welcome to contact the front office should you have any questions.
Colour Fun Run
All I can say is what an event! I am pleased to report that the Colour Fun Run was a success, with both students and staff having a blast of a time. The school has raised $25000 (less costs) from the event, which will go towards reading books and Library resources, and I would like to thank everyone who participated, including all of our teachers! A big shout out to Ms Field and Mrs Garth for organising, setting up and packing up, and to all those students and their families that fundraised for the event.
Year 6 graduation
Our Year 6 students had their Graduation Dinner last night, and it was really nice to see so many smiling faces enjoying their special moment. Our Year 6 students are a hardworking bunch who really do set the standard for our primary school. We are excited for them as they move towards their new chapter of schooling, and we wish them all the best with their future endeavours.
Year 6 Graduation Certificates will be awarded at the Presentation Assembly on Friday 9th of December. All are welcome to attend.
2023 Classing
Over the last week or so, teachers have been working through 2023 classing. As a school, we use a secure software program called ‘Class Creator. The program offers the opportunity for teachers to enter basic academic data about their students within areas such as reading, writing and mathematics, as well as levels of support that students may need within the classroom. The program then uses an algorithm that takes this information into account before producing potential classing arrangements. Teaching teams then review the classing arrangements and make adjustments. The Special Education Teachers, Specialist Teachers and the Leadership Team, are also given the opportunity to review draft classes before finalising.
Students and their families will be notified of their 2023 class and their teacher in Week 10, with details being sent home with class reports. Each student will also get the opportunity to visit their new teacher, in their new classroom, during Week 10.
Wet weather
We are certainly into the wet season now, and we are beginning to have storm activity most days. In the event of a wet recess or lunch, students will remain inside for playtime with teachers offering inside activities. If it is raining during pickup in the afternoon, students will be dismissed from their classrooms (except for Transition) and encouraged to carefully go to their usual locations for collection. If your child rides home, but you intend to pick them up, please contact the office prior to the home bell.
Road safety
A friendly reminder of the importance of road safety discussions at home. If your child/ren often walks or rides, please remind them of the need to stop, look and listen before using the crossing.
Stay safe and have a great week,
