Camps
We sent off some happy campers this week in year 5 (Monday) and Year 6 (Wednesday) to Batchelor Outdoor Education Centre. A huge thank you to the teachers who have volunteered their time to do these camps overnight and those remaining behind to teach other classes and remaining students.
NT Learning Commissioners
Our NT learning Commissioners will be presenting their final pitch to the Minister today at the Convention Centre. We will place their amazing video explaining the work they have done this year to enhance reading, mathematics and well-being for students at the school as part of analysing data, working alongside the leadership team and collecting and analysing student's voice. Colour Fun Run
Date: 25th November Time: Early Lunch @ 12:30 pm Fun Run Starts @ 1:00 pm
On Friday, 25th November 2022, we are holding our Crazy Colour Day as a major fundraising event. Funds raised will go towards much-needed money for reading books and library resources.
Congratulation Total fundraising of $25,756!
Students should wear white or light sun-safe clothing to get the most colourful experience. It’s best to also run in old running shoes. Students are welcome to come to school in their white shirts and bring a change of clothes to change into at the end of the day (optional).
Making our road environment safer: a visit from the Lord Mayor and three local Alderman.
On Monday, 14 November, the Lord Mayor of Darwin (Kon Vatskalis), the three local Alderman for Chan Ward (Councillors Ed Smelt, Morgan Rickard and Peter Pangquee) and representatives from the City of Darwin (CEO Simone Saunders; Engineer Drosso Lelekis) visited Nightcliff Primary School to discuss practical solutions for improving the safety of the road environment around our school.
The Road Safety/Active Travel Project Team from the NPS School Council advocated for three raised zebra crossings (i.e. Wombat Crossings, e.g. out the front of Nightcliff Pool) on Cunjevoi Crescent, Pandanus Street and Bauhinia Street in the vicinity of the childcare centre. Wombat Crossings are being increasingly rolled out around schools by City Councils across Australia because they (a) actively slow traffic, (b) increase the visibility of our kids, and (c) place the priority on pedestrians over cars.
The group walked the perimeter of the school and pointed out current issues with congestion, unsafe sections of roads and footpaths and the shortcomings of current crossings.
We thank the Lord Mayor and City of Darwin representatives for visiting on-site and Councillor Ed Smelt for facilitating the meeting.
