Week 3 Term 4
NPS Newsletter
It’s Darlirrgang (Build up) Season for Gulumoerrgin (Larrakia) country. Danijarra - Long Bums, a favoured shellfish, are collected now from Moedoelma (the mangrove forest), including Periwinkles and Dala (Mangrove Worm – great for sore throats and chest issues).
Welcome to Week 3!
The term is zooming by, and it is full steam ahead. Speaking of steam, it has been a very hot start to the week, with similar weather predicted to continue. Staff continue to remind students to hydrate, and we would like to encourage all families to ensure their children have a labelled water bottle and hat at school each day.
World Teacher's Day
This Friday is World Teacher’s Day which is celebrated across the nation with the purpose of recognising the dedication and passion teachers bring to the job whilst taking the opportunity to say thank you. Our teachers play an important role in our community, so please join me in thanking them for their commitment to inspire students and their contribution to quality education.
The day will also see the overall winners of the Teaching in the Territory Excellence Awards announced. As you know, we have several staff members shortlisted across a number of award categories, including Early Childhood Educator of the Year, Education Support Person of the Year, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Educator of the Year, Inclusion Educator of the Year and Leader in Education. We wish Miranda, Michelle, Kiah, Sarah, Helen, Tynan, Sue and Lee-Anne the best of luck!
FELA & PAT testing
Throughout the year, teachers consistently monitor their student's progress and collect evidence of learning. This assists teachers in identifying student needs, target teaching and monitoring learning growth. Transition teachers have been conducting FELA testing across the transition classes this term. The Foundations of Early Literacy Assessment is an assessment designed to monitor students' mastery of early literacy skills and knowledge, and we have seen some pleasing progress.
From Years 1 to 6, all students participated in the Progress Achievement Tests (PAT). There are two PAT tests, a reading test and a maths test. The assessments are online and have a range of questions differing in ability but aligned to the year-level achievement standard. Again, teachers have noted academic growth across classes. Well done, all students.
School Calendar
We have a busy term ahead. Please keep an eye on our school calendar, which conveniently outlines all upcoming events, including several Student Representative Council (SRC) initiatives such as Crazy Socks Day and Pajama Day. The SRC events are free of charge, and all are encouraged to participate and have fun.
This Friday is Day for Daniel, and all students are encouraged to wear red and bring a gold coin donation, with proceeds going to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.
Farewell and good luck Ms Michelle.
This week we say goodbye and good luck to Michelle Niscioli, who is moving to a new job in a different setting. Michelle has worked across Nightcliff Primary School for eight years, supporting many students within her role as Teacher Assistant and will be missed dearly. She is a well-respected and valued member of our school community who is loved by all the students she works to support. We thank you for your dedication and wish you all the very best.
A friendly Reminder
This a friendly reminder that there are no duty teachers within the school grounds until 7:50 am. Please be mindful of this and try to avoid dropping your children off too early. We appreciate your consideration and support with this. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Stay safe, and have a great week.
