Week 2 Term 4

It’s Darlirrgang (Build up) Season for Gulumoerrgin (Larrakia) country. The Red Flowering Kurrajong tells you Malagujinba (sharks) are fat and ready for hunting. Gilinggilingba (Flying Foxes) take advantage of fruiting mangoes growing in the Darwin region.
What a fantastic performance this week at our Extravaganza. The students amazed us with their dancing skills, including those from as young as Preschool upwards! If you missed it, videos of each performance are available on request from our front office at nightcliff.ps@education.nt.gov.au.
These are for personal use for parents and carers only and, are not to be distributed or posted elsewhere as some students have restricted privacy permissions.
Curriculum continuity throughout school life
Teachers provide face-to-face instruction for 40 weeks of education a year at Primary Schools. This ensures the Australian Curriculum is covered through a planned scope and sequence over 40 weeks. If your child has missed schooling or has been away on holidays, it is important that you know the topics being covered while they were away. Teachers provide Yearly and Term Overviews and can provide you with the topics you may need to revise for the time missed. Online programs such as Mathletics and Soundwaves support Numeracy and Literacy learning and can be searched by topic for revision of missed lessons. These are provided for free by the school. For every day not attended, the impact in the long term becomes exponential in terms of increasing gaps in learning.
Industrial Action
A period of work bans is in place until Friday, 21st October and includes parent-teacher interviews, staff meetings, marking and assessment. Please contact our leadership team via the front office email above if you have any queries or need further information regarding your child’s progress. Please check our website for any updates. Communications will also be sent home as updates.
World Teacher’s Day – Friday, 28th October
Congratulations to Miranda Needham, Kiah Fereday, Michelle Niscioli, Sarah Behan, and our Inclusion Support Team (NEST), who have been selected as finalists in the Teaching in the Territory Excellence Awards! Winners will be announced at the World Teacher’s Day event hosted by the Department of Education on Friday, 28th October. Thank you to our school council, who has kindly offered to cook lunch for our teachers on World Teacher’s Day.
Our Bell
You may have noticed the bell has changed! This is due to a replacement of our current speaker system throughout the school, which broadcasts messages and plays bell music. Remember, the class with the highest attendance each week gets to choose the bell music the following week!
Have a great week.
