Newsletter Week 1 Term 4
Welcome back to school! This term will be busy! We have some exciting events to look forward to that the NT student Learning Commissioners and Student Representative Council have created to keep students engaged and having fun at school while learning. Every Friday has an event, so ask your child about this week’s one. It will be advertised on the website, in the newsletter, posters displayed, reminder text messages to parents Wednesdays and announcements by student leaders on Thursdays.
Recess and Lunch
This term will be hot and wet; we have opened the library at recess Monday, Wednesday and Friday for Lego Club. All students are welcome to attend. The library will continue to be open at lunch every day.
The Frill Neck Lizards have started to come down from the trees to lay their eggs in the leafy mounds in Finch’s Forest. As part of our Eco-School Plan, the Forest will be closed for Term 4 to allow the Frill Necks safety and ensure all the eggs can grow and hatch.
The Oval is now open to all students in years 1 – 6. We have provided more soccer goals on the oval giving all year levels a safe space to play soccer.
Important Event Updates
Protected Industrial Action is continuing for the next two weeks whilst the Australian Education Union negotiates the current Enterprise Bargaining Agreement for teachers. Work hours for teachers are 8:00-3:21 pm, and union members are currently eligible for protected work bans for other duties during their work hours. Please ensure you have read the letter sent home to parents and carers Tuesday and on our website.
Parent/teacher interviews and meetings will not occur during this time as they form part of the work bans. Your queries are important to us regarding your child, so please communicate queries about your child through the front office by phone at 89488488 or email at nightcliff.ps@education.nt.gov.au or via the school website www.nightcliffprimaryschool.nt.edu.au “Need More Information” button, and a member of the leadership team will respond to your queries.
The extravaganza will continue to be held at 8:30 am next Tuesday, 18th October. Please ensure children arrive at school on time so they can get changed into their costumes. The performances will be videoed and sent out via email for each Year level for parents and carers who cannot attend.
Year 6 Graduation Dinner and Dance only. Year 6 certificates will not be handed out at the Graduation Dinner this year as we have a large cohort. Instead, they will be presented at the Presentation Assembly in Week 9 - Friday, 9th December. The Dinner and Dance are Week 8 - Tuesday 29th November, 6 pm – 9 pm at the Nightcliff Sports Club; parents and carers are welcome to take photos when they drop off students at 6 pm.
Please check out our Term 4 calendar in this newsletter.
This a final reminder to keep children hydrated and safe during this term. A water bottle is essential, and ice packs in lunchboxes assist to keep food cool. Please ensure your child has a bucket hat (any type if you have lost one) and sunscreen.
Staffing
We have some staff away this term on leave and some returning. We welcome back Ms Magee this term. Ms Bubb and Ms Patterson will be on leave this term.
In 2023, we will have some staff taking long service leave during the year, now, the borders are open for travel, and some are on maternity leave. Ms Elliot-Hall will return next year from Maternity Leave. We have a lovely large permanent staff with a great sharing and caring culture, collegiality and common vision through our strategic planning documents to place student outcomes at the centre, which gives us many options for classroom covers in 2023.
Student classing planning for 2023 through Class Creator will begin soon. Class Creator is informed by teacher input into relationships, social and emotional needs, behaviour and academics, with students choosing a group of 3 students they have a preference to be with the following year. Meet the new teacher will occur on Wednesday 15th December at 12:45 pm during eating time. New students enrolled for 2023 can attend.
I will be taking leave from 23rd November until the end of the year to attend to family business in New Zealand. Mr Staines will be Acting Principal in my absence.
Our leadership team has a planning day to prepare for 2023 in advance, Tuesday, 8th November. Senior teachers will cover the office this day on rotation.
Have a great week. As always, please feel free to have a chat with us in the central playground in the mornings from 8 am or after school at the front of the school until 2:45 pm or make an appointment.
