Power Outage Monday 19th September
A big thank you to the staff who managed this unforeseen emergency incident well. Our text messaging system MGM sends messages to all contacts directly from our Student Administration System (SAMs) for attendance, event notifications and emergencies. We will send home a form to all families to updates thier contact details in Week 1 Term 4. Please could you pay attention to providing up-to-date details for medical conditions, addresses and phone numbers, as this information is critical in emergency events. A friendly reminder that all students should have a water bottle for school, a hat and include an icepack in lunchboxes, particularly during the wet season.
NBL Bullets Basketball team visit
We welcomed an opportunity for our aspiring Years 3-5 basketball students to attend a session with the Bullets today. Darwin Basketball Association has been running training sessions provided by the NT team ‘Salties’ on Wednesday lunchtimes throughout the term as part of our Sporting Schools Grant organised by Mat Ryan, our amazing HPE Teacher. Mat puts a great deal of extra time into training sessions for students at recess and lunch prior to gala day events, resulting in Nightcliff Primary School being the top school for Darwin for school sports year after year.
Lego Competition and Club
Congratulations to winners and highly commended entries this year. Photos are included. Winners will receive their prizes at assembly this Friday morning. We have a successful and popular Lego club operating each recess and will continue through the wet season in the library. Donations of Lego are always welcome.
Ride to School Day this Friday!
Friday is a day students can gain house points for their sports teams for dressing your bike up in house sports colours!

Due to the noise from the generator supplied this week, whilst waiting for a replacement transformer, we have regretfully postponed the performance until Tuesday 18th October 2022 at 8:30 am as an assembly type performance. We will be recording the performance, and rehearsals have gone well.

Creative Arts
Students in the Creative Arts Group have been working with Ms Costelloe to explore printmaking using foam blocks. They have experimented with different carving implements and water-based ink to create artworks centred around their values and interests.
In Year 6 Drama, some students, along with Miss Costelloe, have been participating in a Sydney Theatre Company program called School Drama Classic. The program uses process drama-based strategies with quality children’s literature to improve student literacy and engagement. Students have been studying the focus text The Rabbits (John Marsden and Shaun Tan) for this unit, which is centred on the theme of colonisation. Below is a piece of writing by Finley La Canna, written from the perspective of the bandicoots in the story:
I can see smoke, dust, and barren ground.
I can hear machines as they make strange black ooze.
I can feel the heartache of having everything and then nothing.
Excellent writing, Finley!
School Fun Run
Fundraising is still on and will be running until Week 2 Term 4. This week’s competition will be for the 3 students with the most funds raised. Winners will get to colour bomb a teacher this Friday, 23rd September. There will also be a prize in Week 1 Term 4, for anyone who has raised over $50. These students will go into a draw and 3 names will be picked out to colour bomb a teacher at the end of Week 1. Fundraising goes to Reading books and Library resources.
Year 4 Camp Thursday 15th - Friday 16th of September:
Students from 4 Fereday, 4 Hauser, 4 Fladrich and the year 4 students from 3/4 Benson were thrilled to experience their first school camp last week. The students had a sleepover at the school and participated in a range of team-building activities, games and crafts, fostering friendship and inclusion.
The sleepover was followed by an excursion to Kingpin on the next day. Students socialised and played in groups with peers from a mixture of all classes. They played 1 round of ten-pin bowling and played 1 rotation of arcade games. The students had an amazing time, we would like to thank our parent helpers that attended, making this experience possible. Thank you: Rachael Conn, Phil Scott and Sandy Smirk.
