Week 5 Term 3
Nightcliff Primary School
It’s Gurrulwa guligi (Big wind time) Season for Gulumoerrgin (Larrakia) country. When Yellow Kapok is flowering, it signifies the time for ceremonies and celebrations of life, rebirth and the rejuvenation of people and country.
Hi everyone
Welcome to Week 5.
Teaching and Learning
At this halfway point of a key teaching term, we encourage families to continue checking in with students on their personal learning goals set for Reading, Mathematics and Wellbeing for this term. Mathletics and Reading Eggs can support these goals to allow students to practice deficits in learning identified in the student report at the end of Term 2 as teachers move along the scope and sequence for learning planned for Semester 2.
Parent Teacher meetings
Parent-teacher interviews are planned for Week 9, but you may make an appointment anytime during the year with the teacher if you have concerns about your child’s progress. You may also email the teacher at any time to check on progress, seek assistance and advise your teacher if any current circumstances may be impacting performance at school. Email addresses are on our website.
Late arrivals- 3.2% (21) students are late regularly for school.
We have several students consistently arriving late for school. As the first teaching session starts at 8:10-9:10, specialist teachers such as Science, Sport, Arts and Languages who teach at this time with classes have only an hour to teach your child once per week and can be impacted over time, in regards to how much learning your child receives to enable them to complete assessments well.
Late pickups – 10-17 students daily await pickup or are loitering
Duty finishes at 2:45 pm daily to enable staff meetings to occur across the week. Please ensure your child is picked up by 2:45 pm. Please remind your child to go home on the bell as we have several students loitering and being noisy when staff are trying to work after hours in their classrooms. After 2.45 pm, there is no one on duty or available for first aid. If you require it, the OHSC is available for after-hours care; even if it is late notice, they are available for emergency care. Thank you
A big thank you to our school council, who have organised several community events this term for families to share as a community space and get together, as Covid restrictions ease. Please support these events, as they are run by volunteers and after hours. Please sign up to help if you are able to.
This Thursday night is our first Movie Night! Enjoy the stars, bring a blanket, meet friends, play, buy dinner or bring your own picnic.
Upcoming Community events include:
- Ride 2 school day- dress your bike for house points (this Friday, 19th August)

Camps and excursions rely on help as well. Teachers have a constant duty of care, so if you are able to support our teachers in supervising some events, that helps spread the workload and allow breaks.
Have a great week, and look forward to seeing you at our first Movie Night on Thursday!
Reminder to parents
Further to a communication sent out earlier this week, some of our staff will be taking part in the industrial action on Friday 19 August 2022, between 9 am and 1 pm.

Darwin Street Art Festival
On Monday, students from our school’s Creative Arts Group were given the opportunity to participate in the Darwin Street Art Festival. The students, who had no prior experience doing graffiti art, worked with local artist David Collins to create the street art, which can be found near the Nightcliff shops. The artwork includes paintings of the school values and of native flora and fauna found in the Nightcliff area, tying in with our drive as an Eco School to promote a love for the natural world. The student artists are Aleesha, Izzy, Shayne, Tyler, Jordan, and Taj.
