Week 3 Term 3
Nightcliff Primary School
It’s Gurrulwa guligi (Big wind time) Season for Gulumoerrgin (Larrakia) country. The flowering of wattles tell you that stingrays are fat and plentiful. The wattle (Acacia dimidiata) that is a cue for stingrays is a small tree with broad, coarse foliage and showy, bright yellow flowers.
Hi everyone
Some great events coming up. Please check out our term calendar as we will be updating this weekly as events get postponed from time to time.
Check out our website! Try it here: www.nightcliffprimary.edu.au
We continue to update this platform to ensure parents and carers can access information about programs, but there is also a button for parents/carers who need more information which then goes to our communications officer for updating.
Our toilets have been upgraded in Transition after many requests from student voice. We will plan for CBlock toilets to be painted as well during September and then EBlock toilets next year.

School Council News
My name is Sam Wood, and I am one of your school council members at Nightcliff Primary School. I am an Environmental Scientist living in Rapid Creek with two kids at NPS and one toddler in the bike seat who can't wait to join his sisters.
As a new member of the school council, I am enjoying working with an enthusiastic bunch of amazing people on the Community Engagement Committee to put on a range of events to bring together our diverse and vibrant school community.
I lead the Road Safety Committee, where we are working towards making the road and footpath environment around the school safer. We also help foster a 'walk and wheel' culture at NPS because it is so important to keep our kids active and healthy and to reduce traffic around the school.
I am also passionate about helping progress the sustainability programs within the school and exploring opportunities for developing green initiatives at NPS.
If any of these topics interest you, get in touch with the committee nightcliffpsc@gmail.com or find me on my bike and we can talk about making NPS a great place for our kids.
Father's Day Breakfast
It was wonderful to see such a great turnout from the school community at the Mother’s Day event in May 2022. Thanks to all that came along to support our school and the mothers in our lives. Due to requirements to minimise risks as per Covid-19 safety planning, we chose to use a catering service to provide a range of delicious food. As we return to the new normal, for future events would like to return to the sausage sizzle/pancake style catering loved by the school community.
The Father’s Day breakfast will be on 2nd September 2022, and we are putting out an early call for volunteers for cooking and helping to organise this event. Sign up using the link below and keep your eye out for a second call out closer to the day.

Science Week -15th - 19th August
Dear Parents
August 15 to 19 is Science Week and during this time we will be promoting and celebrating the field of science.
Seeking Parent Volunteers:
The science room will be open each lunchtime from 1 - 1.30 pm and during this time we are seeking parents who work in the field of science to share what they do to promote careers in science. This might look like you standing at a table with a small display including things like equipment, tools, photos, specimens etc and students moving around the room and asking questions.
First Nations people are acknowledged as Australia’s first scientists, so we also invite any First Nations parents to share some of this rich and ancient knowledge. This might look like showing us things like ochres used as paints or dyes, bush medicine or examples of how natural materials are used to make tools/utensils (e.g. spear, woven baskets, bush rope, stone tools, bush soap, etc).
If you can help, please contact our science teacher Ms Louise Bright at: louise.bright@education.nt.gov.au
Include which day/s you can visit and your career or connection to science.
Each year level will visit the Science room on these days:
Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday |
Transition | Year 1 | Year 2 | Year 3 | Year 4 |
Gathering Resources:
We are also seeking support to gather resources.
Please send glass jars (wrapped to avoid breakage), sea glass, small cardboard boxes (e.g. cereal, biscuits etc), and cardboard cylinders (e.g. from foil/wrap/paper towel) to your child’s classroom teacher.
Ms Bright is also seeking small to medium-sized plants in pots or plant cuttings. Please contact Ms Bright (details above) or send it to the Science room.
We are looking forward to an exciting Science Week and thank you in advance for your support.
Yours sincerely
