Week 6 Term4
Nightcliff Primary School
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we approach the end of term, our students are continuing to work hard in their classes while also beginning to enjoy some end-of-year projects and activities. It’s a busy but exciting time as students reflect on their learning and look forward to the holidays.
A quick reminder that the weather has been very hot, so please ensure your child brings a water bottle to school each day to stay hydrated. Our library is open every recess and lunch for students to escape the heat, providing a cool space to relax and read.
On Monday, we observed Remembrance Day at school. Students had discussions in class about the significance of the day, and at 11am, Kate from Year 3 read a poem and shared information to help students reflect on this important occasion.
Looking ahead, next week on Tuesday 19th November we have our whole-school Auslan Assembly, where each class will showcase their learning for the year by performing a song in Auslan (Australian Sign Language). It’s sure to be a fantastic celebration of our students' hard work and creativity.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to finishing the term on a high note!
DISCO
We’re excited to announce that our recent school disco was a great success! The kids had a fantastic time showing off their dance moves, and we raised $1474.00 from the event. This money will go towards supporting various projects across the school.
A special thank you to Alan Fanning from AJF Electrical & Air Conditioning for kindly providing the lighting and smoke machine, which helped create a fun atmosphere for the night. We truly appreciate your support, Alan!
We would also like to extend our thanks to all the teachers and staff who volunteered their time to supervise and run the disco. Your efforts made the event smooth, enjoyable, and safe for everyone involved.
The funds raised will be put to good use, benefiting our students and the broader school community.
Thank you to everyone who contributed, attended, and made the event possible.
Colour Fun Run
Today, we celebrated the success of our Colour Fun Run, and what an amazing day it was! The event was full of energy, laughter, and vibrant colours, and we are thrilled to announce that we raised a total of $15,534.50 across the school – a fantastic achievement!
During today’s assembly, we recognized the students who raised the most money. Our top fundraisers were awarded a special certificate and a cape to celebrate their outstanding efforts. Congratulations to the following students:
- Alvina, Aliyah & Xavier
The Colour Fun Run committee is currently finalizing how the funds will be spent to benefit our students and school community. We will keep you updated on this and share more details in our upcoming newsletters.
A huge thank you to all of our students, families, and supporters who made this event possible. Your generosity and enthusiasm have made a real difference.
We’ll also be sharing photos from the event in future newsletters, so stay tuned!
Well done to everyone who took part – we couldn’t have done it without you!
Library News
As we approach the end of the year, we will be conducting an audit of our library books to ensure everything is accounted for and ready for the new year. To help with this process, please note the following important dates:
- Student library borrowing will end at the end of Week 8, and all library books should be returned by Friday of Week 9.
- The Home Reading Program and Lexile Reading Program will also conclude at the end of Week 8, with all books needing to be returned by Friday of Week 9.
- Reminders, along with a list of books borrowed, will be sent home with students during Week 8.
We are excited to announce that over the break, we will be making some major changes to the library! We are planning a fresh new look and some fun updates, creating an inviting space for students to enjoy when they return in the new year.

Learning Commissioners Shine at Pitch to the Minister
Nightcliff Primary School’s Learning Commissioners made us all proud as they presented at the NTLC Expo at the Pitch to the Minister event at the Darwin Convention Centre yesterday. This exciting opportunity allowed our students to present their innovative ideas alongside 50 other schools from all over the Northern Territory, including key government figures and community leaders.
The Learning Commissioners have been working hard to identify areas for improvement in the way we approach learning at Nightcliff Primary. Their initiative was in response to an earlier survey, which revealed that only 29% of students feel their teachers understand how they learn. Their hard work surveying all our students on their preferred learning styles and subsequent work, plus pitching to the Education Minister during the Expo, reflected their commitment to making a positive impact.
It was an inspiring event, and our students did a fantastic job of confidently presenting their ideas, showing leadership and passion for creating a better learning environment for all. Their work exemplifies the values of innovation, creativity and student agency that we strive to cultivate at Nightcliff Primary. A huge congratulations to our Learning Commissioners for representing our school with such poise and enthusiasm. We're excited to see how their ideas will help shape the ongoing work of the NTLC in 2025.
5/6 K & 1 Bryson Buddy Class
This term, 5/6K students have been partnering with their 1Bryson buddies to support their reading development. The older students have been helping their younger peers improve reading speed and accuracy through fun, interactive sessions. In addition to reading, both classes have been exploring art, with 1Bryson students recreating famous works of art. Year 5/6K students have provided guidance and encouragement, fostering a creative and supportive learning environment. This partnership has been a wonderful way for the students to develop their skills while building strong connections across year levels.
