Week 10 Term 3
Nightcliff Primary School
Dear Families
The end of term is a time to express gratitude. The meaning of gratitude is ‘the quality of being thankful: readiness to show appreciation for and return to kindness’. The term has brought many highlights and achievements.
The teaching staff have strengthened their 2024 focus on the improvement of reading, whilst engaging students in other key areas of the curriculum. The Dance Concert was a credit to all the staff involved and students, presenting an entertaining performance.
We have tried new innovations to build on ‘Believe and Achieve, Support and Sustain’ through the Open Street Party, reducing carbon footprints for every family who rode or walked to school. The School Council hosted another enjoyable Father’s Day Breakfast and community raffle. The fundraising efforts of the students saw generous donations totalling approximately $15,000 for The Colour Fun Run.
Students achieved success in Book Week and Science Week competitions. It was a pleasure to have one of the students share the completion of reading their book prize, ‘The 13 Story Treehouse’ with me. Sporting success across diverse fields have been celebrated, including interstate AFL representation, the Nightcliff Tiger’s years 5/6 grand final win, internal volleyball competition success and swimming at a national level.
May the holiday break treat you kindly, as you spend time with family and friends. We look forward to Term Four.

Congratulations to Ms Carla Wall who is a finalist in the category of Early Years Educator of the Year. Ms Carla Wall is a dedicated Early Years Teacher. Her commitment and passion for teaching and learning in the early years is reflected by this nomination.
The winners will be announced on World Teachers Day, Friday 25th October. Nightcliff Primary School wishes Ms. Carla the best of Luck!
Sami Bayly visit
On Wednesday, Nightcliff Primary School had the pleasure of hosting author and illustrator Sami Bayly. Known for her Illustrated Encyclopedia series, Sami’s visit was an exciting opportunity for our students to dive into the world of art, animals and storytelling.
Sami shared her creative process, explaining how she researched and illustrated some of the world's most unique creatures. Students enjoyed her detailed artwork and the stories behind her books, which feature everything from peculiar pairs in nature to the most dangerous and unusual animals.
The day also featured interactive workshops, where the whole school had the chance to try sketching their own animals, inspired by Sami’s work. It was a day filled with creativity, learning and inspiration, as students discovered what it takes to turn a passion for painting into a career.
We’re sure Sami Bayly’s visit sparked new ideas and excitement for both art and writing among our students. Thank you to Sami for making this a memorable day at Nightcliff Primary!
