Week 7 Term 3
Nightcliff Primary School
Good afternoon Nightcliff Primary Families
The Father’s Day Breakfast was a wonderful way to celebrate fathers or father figures. Families shared a meal together, thanks to the Nightcliff Primary School Council. ‘Many hands make light work’- the School Council is led by Chair, Mr. Allen Fanning. There are also sub-committees, including Community Engagement. Ms. Sarah Mills has led the sub-committee this year, overseeing both morning breakfasts, raffles, and the movie night. We would especially like to thank Sarah for volunteering her time to the school community. Thank you to the new family volunteers who joined us today. Nightcliff Middle School students volunteered to help them complete the Duke of Edenborough National Award.
The 2024 Dance Concert was a celebration of timelines linked to the current school year. The students did a fabulous job performing their items, spending time perfecting their dance routine. The event would not be possible without the teachers who choreographed the dances and rehearsed with the students. Thank you! We would also like to acknowledge Ms. Sarah Behan and the Dance Committee for the behind the scenes work to plan, organise, and deliver the event successfully. Community members who attended the event shared their appreciation of staff and students.
Kind Regards
Principal

Exploring Creativity Through Shadow Puppetry: A Dive into Media Arts
This term in Media Arts, our students have been immersing themselves in the magical world of shadow puppetry. This exciting project has not only allowed them to explore their artistic talents but also to engage with environmental sustainability through the use of recycled materials.
Andrew’s Puppet Theatre Showcase
A special shoutout goes to Andrew, who guides a photo demonstration on how our puppet theatre boxes were made. Using recycled materials such as cardboard and old fabric, Andrew shows us how everyday items can be transformed into a creative and functional puppet theatre. You might like to give this a try at home. Remember the light can just be from a torch or phone!
Student Creations and Presentations
Our students have been busy creating their own shadow puppets and theatre pieces. They’ve crafted unique puppets from various materials and designed backdrops to bring their stories to life. The project has encouraged them to experiment with light and shadow, exploring how different angles and intensities can alter the mood and narrative of their performances.
This term’s Media Arts classes will culminate in a series of presentations where students will showcase their shadow puppetry skills. Each performance will demonstrate their creativity and hard work, reflecting the diverse stories and ideas they've developed. Our shadow puppetry project has not only been a fun and educational experience but also a wonderful opportunity for students to collaborate, innovate and express themselves. I’m proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing how their artistic skills continue to evolve. Stay tuned for more creative updates from our talented students! Wendy Fanning – Arts Teacher.

AFL Stars Shine at National Championships: A Recap of Our Students’ Experience in Geelong
We are excited to celebrate the achievements of three of our remarkable students who recently represented the Northern Territory at the Under 12 AFL Australian School Sport Championships in Geelong. Sylvie, Eve and Amira had a fantastic time and have shared some of their memorable experiences from the tournament.
Sylvie’s Highlights and Lowlights:
Sylvie’s journey to Geelong was filled with joy and camaraderie. One of her favourite moments was being with her friends and teammates and she was thrilled to fly interstate for the event. The highlight of her trip was securing a victory against the ACT in the Territory Shield, a proud achievement for her and the team. On the flip side, Sylvie found the cold weather a bit challenging, which was a lowlight of her experience.
Eve’s Highlights and Lowlights:
Eve enjoyed some exciting moments during the championships. She was thrilled to watch the high-stakes game between the Geelong Cats and the Adelaide Crows, which added an extra layer of excitement to the trip. Additionally, Eve loved the opportunity to compete against teams from other states. However, managing daily chores like doing dishes and laundry proved to be a bit of a challenge for her, making it a notable lowlight.
Amira’s Highlights and Lowlights:
For Amira, the highlight of the trip was winning the Territory Shield, a significant achievement that she and her teammates will always cherish. She also enjoyed getting to know all the girls on the team better and forming strong bonds through their shared experiences. Nevertheless, Amira found making her bed quite difficult, which she humorously noted as a lowlight of her stay.
Overall, the Under 12 AFL Australian School Sport Championships was a fantastic experience for Sylvie, Eve, and Amira. Their dedication and enthusiasm not only contributed to their personal growth but also highlighted the spirit and talent of Nightcliff Primary School.
Congratulations to all three of our stars for their hard work and memorable experiences. We look forward to seeing more of their achievements in the future!
Go Nightcliff!

Colour Fun Run
NPS Colour Fun Run Fundraiser!
This year we have three possible goals that will make a big difference for our school!$10,000 Goal: If we reach $10,000, we’ll be able to provide teacher microphones for classroom inclusion support, ensuring every student can engage and participate fully.
OR
$25,000 Goal: Hitting $25,000 means we can update our play areas with new tables and a refreshed sandpit, giving our students more space and opportunities to play and learn outdoors.
OR
$50,000 Goal: And if we go all the way to $50,000, we’ll be able to install a SHADE SAIL over the playground on the oval, creating a cool, sun-safe space for everyone to enjoy!
Let’s come together to make this happen for our school community. Every bit helps, and we can’t wait to see the impact of your support!
This week, we are encouraging all students to make a profile and raise $10 or more for the chance to colour bomb teachers on Friday!
