Dear families,
We are quickly wrapping up Semester One, with only one week of school to go.
We have had some of our big events these last two weeks, with students enjoying Sports Day and the Art Show. We would like to thank all of the teachers, parents and of course students for their hard work in making these events come together.
Students can expect their Semester One reports next week.
Have a great weekend!

Art Show
The NPS Art Show went out with a BANG! Thank you to all parents, carers and friends who supported our fundraiser. Last minute sales can still occur this afternoon if you weren’t able to attend. We have been able to almost meet our target of $3,000 for a new sound system.
Congratulations to the highest bidder in our silent auction – the Pritchard-Davies family. We hope you enjoy your NPS Art!
Artists whose work has been reserved will be able to confirm or deny their sale and their decisions will be communicated as soon as possible.
It was lovely to have help from the students, staff and parents. The event would not have been possible without each and every one of you!
Swell Arts Festival
The year 5’s and 6’s had the opportunity to attend the SWELL Arts Festival at Nightcliff Middle School - a showcase of the Middle Schools elective subjects. Our students were able to check out the huge variety of work displays from the Art, Media, Cooking, French and HPE students, and watch performances by the Music, Dance and Drama students.
It was an entertaining and inspiring event that the students enjoyed!
Reconciliation Week
On Friday 31st of May the school celebrated Reconciliation Week through a whole school assembly. Students from 4 Fereday and 4 Fladrich performed Tribal Voice by Yothu Yindi. They were also joined by 4 Hauser’s class at the end of the performance to collectively sing a segment of First Nations by Midnight Oil. This Year’s Reconciliation theme is Now More Than Ever, which advocates for social change. These two songs performed together, represent how First Nation and Australian perspectives may come together to achieve Reconciliation.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Colours Day
On Friday 31st of May we celebrated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Colours Day. Students were asked to dress in one or more colours of the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander flags and donate a gold coin to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. This foundation supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander remote communities by providing, developing and publishing literacy texts that are engaging and relevant to communities. Some of these texts are published in a range of local Indigenous languages, promoting reading, learning and positive identity.
Nightcliff Primary school successfully raised $218 dollars! Thank you for your contributions. Students showcased their outfits at the assembly.
Reconciliation Merit Award:
This year we introduced two special Merit Awards to Celebrate Reconciliation Week. Two students from each class were selected to receive ‘Showing respect learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Histories and Cultures’ and ‘Displaying a positive sense of self’. These merit awards were presented by Ms Fereday and tradition owner Uncle Lenny.
Reconciliation Week Whole School Learning:
Students from preschool to year 6 participated in learning activities in the classroom.
Preschool and Transition | Terra Nullius and that Aboriginal people are the world’s oldest continuous living culture
|
Year 1 | Aboriginal flag and the artist Harold Thomas |
Year 2 | Referendum and discussing themes of equality |
Year 3 | Vincent Lingiari and the Wave Hill Walk Off |
Year 4 | Stolen Generation |
Year 5 | Kenbi Land Claim |

At assembly, students were invited to the stage to display their learning. Our learning across the school is coming together to make a Reconciling Timeline display, which celebrates the progress in the Australia’s Reconciliation Journey.
Year 4:
Students from 4 Fereday and 4 Fladrich were excited to have a special class visit from traditional owner Uncle Lenny and guest Louise Bright. Uncle Lenny shared his family experiences growing up on Larrakia Country, special sites and the local land claim journey.
NPS Sports Carnival
We're thrilled to share that the NPS Sports Carnival was an incredible success! The energy, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship displayed by our students were truly inspiring.
Lead It Like a Girl
The Year 6 girls participated in the JT Lead It Like a Girl Program run by the Johnathan Thurston Academy during Term 1. Students were excited to receive their shirts this week and to continue developing courage, confidence and self-belief.
